LEGISLATIVE COMPLIANCE:
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will always operate lawfully, in full compliance with the Federal and State legislative and regulatory framework governing its operations and agreement with the registration as an RTO. Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training is committed to ensuring that legal compliance informs and underpins all aspects of its operations, including the performance of functions and/or acquittal of responsibilities and obligations by all stakeholders (including its trainers and administration personal). Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will keep all stakeholders fully informed at all times of their legal obligations.
Anti-Discrimination:
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will always protect the rights of all individuals to work, train, study, learn and/or participate in an environment free of discrimination. It is committed to providing and maintaining an environment where all trainers, students, are treated with fairly and equally regardless of attribute, and afforded equality of opportunity in all areas of employment, work, education and/or access to services and facilities. Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will never condone nor tolerate any form of discrimination whatsoever, ensuring that all individuals are recognised, accepted and valued within the organisation.
Anti-Bullying and Anti-Harassment:
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will always protect the rights of all individuals to work, train, study, learn and/or participate in an environment free of harassment (including sexual harassment), bullying and/or victimisation. It is committed to providing and maintaining an environment where all trainers, students and stakeholders are treated with respect and dignity, and not subjected to any form of harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, victimisation and/or harsh and unreasonable behaviour. Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will never condone nor tolerate any forms of such behaviours whatsoever. This policy applies to all Staff (including the management), students.
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training through its management, trainers students and stakeholders will at times comply with the provisions of the:

Responsibilities of enrolled students of Southern Cross First Aid Skills must:
- Treat all individuals fairly and justly, with due recognition and respect for their talents, skills and attributes at all times;
- Ensure that their own conduct and behaviour does not condone or encourage unlawful discrimination whatsoever;
- Actively participate and engage in all ongoing anti-discrimination awareness training and development as an integral component of their learning and development with Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training;
- Bring to the immediate attention of the trainer or manager any infringements of rights.
Work Health and Safety:
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its staff, trainers, students and other affected stakeholders (including contractors and visitors) at all times. Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will ensure that all training and assessment activity, learning and work is undertaken in an environment that promotes the health, safety and wellbeing of the individual and protects all stakeholders from health and safety hazards and risks arising out of its activities.
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training through its management, staff, trainers, students and stakeholders will at times comply with the provisions of the:
- Work Health Safety Act, 2011 (NSW)
- Work Health Safety Regulation 2011 (NSW)
- Work Health Safety Act 2011 (Qld)
- Work Health Safety Regulations 2011 (Qld)
Responsibilities
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training, Staff, trainers, students and Clients are responsible for:
- Taking reasonable care for their own health and safety;
- Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of others in the workplace or training, learning or assessment environment;
- Cooperating with Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training, staff, trainers, students and others in the workplace or training, learning or assessment environment(s) to ensure the health and safety of all stakeholders;
- Complying with any reasonable instruction by the manager;
- Adhering to safe work practices, methods, instructions, and rules, and fulfilling legal obligations to work safely;
- Cooperating with any reasonable policies and procedures implemented by Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training through its manager;
- Identifying and reporting to the Manager any hazards or health and safety-related issues (including unsafe work conditions and activities, unsafe equipment or resources), using the Hazard Report Form;
- Participating in work health and safety inductions and training programs;
- Wearing and/or using all provided personal protective equipment and clothing in accordance with training and instruction specifications;
- Using and maintaining machinery and equipment properly and safely;
- Not misusing, damaging, refusing to use, or interfering with anything provided in the interests of work health and safety.
Privacy Policy:
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training is committed to protecting an individual’s right to privacy. Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training acknowledges and takes seriously its responsibilities and obligations under the Privacy Act, 1988 (Cth) [as amended] and its associated Privacy Principles:
- Privacy Act, 1988
- Privacy (Private Sector) Regulations 2001
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training is committed to complying with these mandates and principles and ensuring the privacy of information of all students and clients (including prospective students and clients), staff and stakeholders at all times
Collection of Information
In collecting information, Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will:
- Only collect information for lawful purposes related to its function;
- Only collect information that is necessary and by lawful means;
- Where possible only collect information that is provided by the individual to whom the information relates, collecting it in a way that is not personally intrusive;
- Where information is provided by another party, ensure that collection has been authorised by the individual concerned or by someone who is legally authorised to provide it on their behalf; and
- Notify the individual that information is being collected, either at the time of collection or as soon as practicable afterwards.
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will manage information responsibly by:
- Taking reasonable steps to ensure that information held is relevant for the purpose for which it was collected, accurate, up-to-date and no misleading;
- Retaining information for no longer than is necessary, then disposing of it securely in accordance with methods approved by the Manager;
- Securely protecting it from loss or unauthorised access, use, disclosure or misuse, and from unauthorised modification;
- Taking reasonable steps to prevent its disclosure without authorisation.
Disclosure of Information
Southern Cross First Aid Skills Training will only disclose information where:
- Its disclosure has been consented to in writing by the individual to whom it relates; or
- Its disclosure is required by law and requested in an authorised written form.
- The Manager is the sole representatives with responsibility for managing such requests to disclose information. In the absence of the Manager from the organisation at any point in time and for whatever reason, the responsibility transfers to the RTO CEO.
A student or client will request such disclosure in writing via completion of the requisite Disclosure of Information Consent Form, which details, under signature, what information is to be disclosed to whom.
Student Access to Records
All students and clients have the right to obtain access to their information; to check it for accuracy, currency and completeness; and to make application for correction of it, as applicable. To this end, a student or client is required to complete an Access to Records Request Form and submit it to the Manager for action. The Manager will make all necessary arrangements for delivery of the requested information to the learner or client for review.
Language, Literacy
Students who wish to enrol into Southern Cross Skills First Aid Skills Training first aid qualifications will need to have the following language, literacy and numeracy skills as a minimum:
Literacy skills to:
- Read and interpret relevant course information
- Prepare required course documentation
- Complete and maintain documentation for assessments
Language skills to:
- English language skills
- Ensure what is being said is appropriate and clear
