This course is for workers, or nominated workplace first aiders, from any industry sector and addresses the provision of care to adults and/or children in the workplace who
ØDisplay signs/symptoms of anaphylaxis
ØPresent with Asthma episodes in the workplace. It provides background knowledge of the triggers, symptoms and effects of asthma as well as emergency management
Anaphylaxis
Upon successful completion participants will be able to:
- Identify the triggers, signs and symptoms of allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.
- Develop risk management and risk minimisation strategies for anaphylaxis. This includes the development and implementation of pre-emergency risk assessment/management and individual anaphylaxis management plans.
- Provide an emergency first aid response to an individual experiencing anaphylaxis, until the arrival of medical assistance. This includes standard first aid procedures and the specific skills and knowledge to administer adrenaline using an adrenaline autoinjector.
Asthma
Upon successful completion participants will be able to:
- Develop an Asthma Management Plan
- Demonstrate treatment using the recommended procedures using a puffer and spacer device
- Complete the incident report form,
Upon successful completion students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
